“Beauty in the Tension”
Musical instruments rely on tension to create their voice; without it, a piano, guitar, or drum cannot truly sing. In much the same way, we often resist the very pressures and uncertainties that shape us. This piece reflects the belief that our fullest resonance emerges when we face tension rather than avoid it.
The backboard is fire charred pine with a mud compound flow design on top. The foreground is made of piano strings secured to piano tuning pins with copper wire. The tile is hand-formed, hand-stamped earthen clay.
It invites viewers to embrace discomfort, sit with mystery, and discover the beauty that has been waiting within the unresolved places of life.
