Layered entirely from pine bark, this guitar-shaped piece honors North Carolina’s musical and natural heritage. As a native of the state, I created this work to evoke the feeling of being grounded—rooted in land, history, and home. Weathered and textured, the bark carries a sense of endurance and quiet strength, while its guitar form reminds us that true music grows from the land itself, shaped slowly over time. Inspired by the fragrant Loblolly Pine and North Carolina’s tar-producing history, Pine Tar is a reflection on forests, faith, labor, and the songs that rise from a place deeply woven into memory and identity.
