"Remember"

46” x 60”

Remember is the flagship work from the Myers Family Series, created through an intimate, on-site collaboration with the family. The piece began on their farm in Statesville, North Carolina, where the artist was invited to disassemble the late father’s player piano—an instrument that had long lived at the heart of both the home and the land.

Following the father’s passing, the family sought a way to preserve his legacy and honor the farm itself, a place shaped by generations of labor, music, and memory, and now in the process of being sold. The materials used in Remember carry that history forward, transforming what was once played and worked into a lasting visual testament.

At the center of the tree trunk rests a tractor, quietly embedded as a symbol of years of hard work, stewardship, and shared moments on the land. More than a memorial, Remember serves as a vessel for story—where family history, place, and personal legacy are not merely referenced, but physically woven into the work itself.

"The Music Plays On"

41” x 23”

The Music Plays On is the second work in the Myers Family Series, created from the same salvaged player piano and made specifically for Eric, the family’s firstborn son. This piece reflects the quiet continuity of legacy—how a father’s voice, character, and influence continue to resonate through the life of his child.

Both Eric and his father are musicians, and this shared language of sound becomes the foundation of the work. The composition centers on the idea that while a life may end, its music does not. It carries forward—reshaped, reinterpreted, and expressed anew through the next generation.

Near the top of the piece, salvaged elements represent Eric, his father, and his three brothers—distinct yet connected. The background is formed from an original sheet-music scroll discovered inside the player piano, allowing the music itself to become both surface and story. The notes are constructed from components of the piano’s hammer assembly, while the base of the piece incorporates the original logo and lid of the instrument, grounding the work in its source.

The Music Plays On is a visual meditation on inheritance—of sound, of love, and of fatherhood—honoring the ways a legacy continues long after the final note is played.

"Pace Yourself"

16” x 40”

Pace Yourself is the third and final piece in the Myers Family series, created from the same piano used in Remember and The Music Plays On. This work was commissioned for one of the sons—a gifted musician, singer, and songwriter.

As the piece began to take shape, I kept hearing the phrase: “Sail on, my son, sail on…” Imagery of boats, open water, and storms continued to surface in prayer, leading me to use sections of his father’s vintage player-piano scrolls as the backdrop. Their perforated notes resembled a starry night sky—but hidden within them was something I could never have planned. When I unrolled one scroll, fragments of lyrics appeared: “Through surf and storm and howling gale, high shall our purpose be.” It was from the U.S. Coast Guard marching song.

This piece represents both grace and resilience. The title, Pace Yourself, comes from the tempo-adjustment plate mounted on the side of the boat—a reminder that there is no pressure to perform in the storm. Rest. Breathe. Move at your own pace. Moments like these are the quiet love notes the Father leaves along the way, if we’ll only take notice.
