"Modern Fossil"
Medium: 1979 Kimball Electric Organ, sand, acrylic
Dimensions: 25” x 45” x 2.5”
Modern Fossil is a tribute to the beauty and soul of forgotten instruments. Built around a 1979 Kimball electric organ, this piece reflects on how quickly technology moves, leaving once-beloved tools in the dust. Encased in sand and acrylic like a preserved relic, the organ becomes a symbol—a fossil of our not-so-distant past.
This work honors the music these instruments gave us and the silence they now endure. It’s for all the lonely instruments still out there, waiting to be heard again.

When the organ’s front plate was removed, it revealed a series of voids—empty spaces that have now been thoughtfully reinhabited by the instrument itself. Each opening is filled with components drawn from the organ’s inner workings, returning its own material back into the body of the piece. Along the lower section, smaller compartments hold carefully arranged electrical elements that once worked in harmony to produce the organ’s distinctive voice. These fragments testify to the unseen systems that gave the instrument its sound, breath, and character.
Inspired by the ancient relief carvings of Petra in Jordan, this piece was conceived to feel unearthed rather than made—an object revealed by time, as if rediscovered after centuries beneath the surface.
